The Maserati GranSport, produced from 2004 to 2007, was a sportier, more dynamic evolution of the existing Maserati Coupé (4200 GT) model, featuring a powerful Ferrari-derived V8 engine and an F1-style transmission. It was positioned as the final and most refined iteration of that platform before the introduction of the new generation GranTurismo in 2007. The GranSport was designed to offer a balance between grand touring comfort and genuine sports car performance. The GranSport was powered by an uprated version of the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 engine, jointly developed with Ferrari, delivering 400 horsepower at 7,000 rpm. A key feature was the standard fitment of the Cambiocorsa 6-speed automated manual transmission, which was mounted at the rear for optimal weight distribution and featured revised software for faster, more responsive shifts, especially in "Sport" mode. This transmission, along with a lower and stiffer suspension, improved aerodynamics (including a new front bumper and side skirts), and a sportier interior with extensive carbon fiber accents and technical cloth upholstery, gave the GranSport a distinct, performance-oriented character.
